DCE and DFS
When a leading Silicon Valley vendor of Unix workstations and
servers needed OSF's
DCE and DFS code ported to their platform, they selected Insight
Solutions over other
bigger vendors to do the job. Insight Solutions delivered a
total solution at a very
reasonable cost.
Working with the OSF reference code, our
engineers identified and designed system specific changes,
including:
Support for specific system calls such
as the threading package
Support for multiple releases of
the Operating System
Support for 64 bit API
Symmetric Multiprocessing (SMP) support
Interfacing the OSF file system code to
the vendor's file system
With over three million lines of source
code in thirteen thousand files in over one thousand directories,
this was not your everyday porting job. In addition, it
required kernel-level design and debugging expertise.
We put together a team of top-notch
engineers to do the design, development, QA and support
for this product. Our engineers defined and implemented
the changes on a very aggressive schedule. We developed
a QA plan with our client that included OSF recommended
tests and platforms. And we built a release strategy
for alpha, beta and final releases. We also provided
support to the end-user customers.
